It was a hot summer day in the middle of July when we decided to start happyFreaks. We were taking the NYC subway into another unenthused day of work.
We looked around the subway car and saw nothing but miserable faces. Nick turned to Mike and said, "If someone didn't know better, they'd think the next stop was a death camp." We knew this wasn't how life was supposed to be.
That night, we quit our jobs and made it our mission to unite the world in love and happiness.
Against his parents' wishes, Mike left school and flew out to Silicon Valley in 2016. While there, he served as Director of Social Media at a FinTech startup in the Y Combinator Winter 2016 batch.
Soon after his YC experience, Mike felt his own entrepreneurial itch and decided to scratch it. Combining their passions for social media and philosophy, the brothers started Stoic Elite - a media company educating the world on the growing trend of Stoicism.
In addition to running Stoic Elite, Mike practices Tai Chi in his spare time.
He also enjoys family time, mindful reflection and his pug Diesel.
In January 2015, Nick was assaulted and left with a shattered jaw. The injury took away his ability to speak and eat solid food for 3 months.
In true Stoic fashion, Nick transformed the obstacle into an opportunity that would change his life forever.
During his 3 month recovery, Nick realized the importance of a healthy mind and body. His search led him to the spiritual practices of meditation and yoga, which he credits for the mental toughness he acquired to overcome his injury.
Nick continues to follow his passion as CEO of Stoic Elite. The team at Stoic Elite is building a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to the values of personal growth and contribution.
Nick also enjoys psychology, hiking, traveling, public speaking, the New York Giants, volunteering, and a good self help book.
